Overview
Medwin Medical Centre is proud to offer ultrasound services to our patients. Ultrasound is a type of imaging that uses sound waves to create pictures of the inside of the body. It is used to look at many different parts of the body, including the heart, blood vessels, tendons, muscles, joints, and internal organs. Ultrasound is safe and does not use ionizing radiation (x-rays).

Ultrasound is often used to help diagnose problems such as:

- Abdominal pain
- Gallstones
- Kidney stones
- Liver problems
- Pancreas problems
- Thyroid problems
- Breast problems
- Pregnancy

Ultrasound can also be used to guide procedures such as:

- Biopsies
- Aspiration of fluid from joints or organs
- Injections into joints or organs

What We Do?

If you have been referred for an ultrasound, please arrive 15 minutes early for your appointment . You will be asked to remove all clothing and jewelry from the waist up and to wear a gown during the exam. You may be asked to drink water or other fluids and to urinate before the exam.

The ultrasound technologist will apply gel to your skin and then move a hand-held device called a transducer over the area of your body being examined. The transducer sends out sound waves that bounce off the organs and tissues and are then converted into images on a computer screen. The exam is usually completed within 30 minutes.

After the exam, you can return to your normal activities. There are no side effects from having an ultrasound.
